About This List
Untax the Roof is building a nonpartisan list of the candidates running for federal office in the November 3, 2026 general election. This page does not endorse or oppose any candidate or party. Candidates are listed alphabetically by last name, not in ballot order, and party labels are shown exactly as the source reported them.
This list is still being built and is not complete. As of October 26, 2026, it includes 849 candidates in 303 contests across 36 states and jurisdictions. Some states have only part of their House districts so far, and 15 states have not been researched yet. A missing name or contest means we haven’t reached it yet — not that no one is running. In a few states, the best source we have so far is known to leave some candidates out; each state’s page explains the limits of its sources.
Always confirm with your official sample ballot. Your county or local election office publishes the exact ballot for your address. You can find your election office at vote.gov.
How Each Name Was Checked
Every candidate is marked with the strongest evidence we have for them so far:
- Found on an official sample ballot (101 candidates) — we found the name on an official sample ballot from a state, county, or town election office. Ballots can differ by county or precinct, so this does not mean every ballot in the state was checked.
- Official candidate list (387 candidates) — the name comes from a state or county election office’s candidate list or filing, but we have not yet matched it to a final ballot. Candidates can still withdraw or be removed after a list is published.
- Other source, still being checked (361 candidates) — the name comes from a non-government source, or from a state report that is labeled unofficial or incomplete, and still needs to be checked against an official election office.
Candidates marked write-in (41) filed or declared as write-in candidates. Their names are not printed on the ballot; voters would have to write them in.
