Our Mission

Our Mission

Untax the Roof is a national movement dedicated to ending recurring property taxation in the United States.

We believe people should not be required to continually pay the government for the right to keep property they already own. Our mission is to educate the public, document the effects of property taxation, organize Americans across state and political lines, and pursue lasting legal and legislative change that ends recurring taxes on homes, land, farms, businesses, and other privately owned property.

Our work is grounded in verifiable facts, transparent sourcing, and the principle that true ownership should not depend on the government receiving another payment every year.

Our Objective

Untax the Roof supports complete abolition of recurring property taxes. Lower rates, assessment caps, exemptions, and temporary relief may reduce an immediate burden, but they do not eliminate the continuing obligation or the consequences of nonpayment.

The path may differ by state. Some states may require legislation, a state constitutional amendment, a ballot measure, or a combination of approaches. A nationwide prohibition may require federal constitutional change or another legally supportable federal approach. Whatever lawful route is available, the objective remains the same: end recurring property taxation throughout the United States.

Our Commitment

We will pursue that objective through public education, research, legislative advocacy, grassroots organization, and transparent evaluation of how services currently supported by property-tax revenue could be funded after abolition.

We will separate documented facts from opinions, legal arguments, disputed claims, estimates, and organizational positions. We will cite primary sources whenever reasonably available and correct material errors openly.
